The Backstory
This story emerged one late night, in January 2023 when sleep was not available due to my having broken my ribs. I plugged in the earphones and wandered through whatever the YouTube AI put in front of me, and then boom I was struck by one song, it hit me like a baseball bat and some things just were too hard to deny.
The time was 3.16 am, and Christians all know 3.16, and the video was from a Blue Rodeo concert dated August 19th, 2019, at the Salmon Arms Roots and Blues Festival in Salmon Arm, British Columbia.
The Blue Rodeo song that caught my attention that morning was a live version of their popular song, One Light Left in Heaven. I listened to the song about 10 times and recalled the musical poetry project from Hillcrest High School and my grade 13 English teacher Joe Hubenig in 1978 and started to make some notes. Long story short, this is the result of those notes.
My sources for various characters originate from the staff that I have met over the months writing this book. I have in many cases used their real first names.
I acknowledge the patience of Steph, who put up with my jabber and promised to buy the first book. The City of Kemptville, the North Grenville area provided a ton of knowledge, and I enjoyed learning about all the places in the book I have yet to visit but know it will happen, such as Vancouver Island.
Of course, Kemptville Live Music Festival which has been part of my life since 2015 or so. Well run, amazing volunteers, and of course great people that I have met while I attended and then joined the volunteer crew.
If you enjoy a great love story, this is it.
The book mixes some tourism features across Canada, some loose history on the band, and adds some on Angels. Some have told me this seems a roll reversal on the 1992 hit movie The Bodyguard, with the character being a strong, smart, woman as the co-leading character.
